The world's most famous passenger ship was built at Belfast shipyard Harland & Wolff and launched on May 31, 1912.

She departed Belfast on April 2, 1912 for Southampton - where her maiden voyage started on April 10, 1912, stopping at Cherbourg, France and then to Cobh (formerly Queenstown) Co. Cork, Ireland on April 11, 1912 - before departing for New York City.

On Sunday April 14, 1912 at 11:40 p.m. - travelling at over 20 knots through the North Atlantic Ocean, she hit an iceburg - ten minutes later a large part of the vessel was flooded by up to 14 feet.

At 12:45 a.m., lifeboats were lowered with women and children aboard. At 2:20 a.m. on April 15, 1912, the Titanic disappeared into the sea - 15 days after she was launched. Approximately 1,500 people perished and 711 survived to tell the tale of this epic and tragic journey
