Many who claim to have experienced his presence, report smelling a distinct fragrance of roses, often described as the "odor of sanctity," which is believed to be a manifestation of his spiritual holiness; this scent is particularly linked to the blood from his stigmata (wounds of Christ) which appeared on his body throughout his life.
